About Memorial Tour

With our Memorial Tour, we will share unique places where history-changing battles took place and that rewrote Italy’s future. Pickup time at 8:30 in the morning for a full day tour through the rolling green hills of south-eastern Rome. Our first visit starts in the Abbey of Casamari of the Cistercian order: it houses a library with one of the oldest manuscript collections. Built in 1203, the Abby is of Gothic design. There, you can visit the Pharmacy dated 1760, or buy a unique liqueur directly produced by the monks in the distillery that utilizes its own grown herbs and plants. Following, we will visit the famous Monte Cassino Abbey, founded in the year 529 by St. Benedict, that witnessed one of the most bloody conflicts on the Italian peninsula during World War Two: on February 15th, 1944 the allies heavily bombarded the monastery reducing the ancient Abbey to nothing more than a ruin. Near the Liri River Valley you will view the area where countless American Rangers lost their lives. In the Cassino War Memorial Museum (Historiale) you will be able to look at over 50 uniforms of ally and axis soldiers who once whore those very uniforms in the Battle of Monte Cassino. After building up an appetite soon to follow there will be a tasty lunch in a local restaurant based on regional cuisine accompanied by fine local wine.
