About Memorial Tour Tour
With our Memorial Tour we will share unique places were history changing battles took place and that rewrote Italy's future. Pickup time at 8:30 in the morning for a full day tour through the rolling green hills of south-east Rome . Our first visit starts in the *Abbey of Casamari* of the Cistercian order: it houses a library with one of the oldest collections of manuscripts. Built in 1203, the Abby is of Gothic design. While there you can visit the Pharmacy dating to 1760 or buy a unique liqueur directly produced by the monks in the distillery that utilizes their own grown herbs and plants. Following we will visit the famous *Monte Cassino Abbey*, founded in the year 529 by St. Benedict, that witnessed one of the most bloody conflicts on the Italian peninsula during World War Two: on February 15th 1944 the allies heavily bombarded the monastery reducing the ancient Abbey to nothing more than a ruin. Nearby the *Liri River Valley* you will view the area where countless *American Rangers* lost their lives. In the *Cassino* War Memorial Museum (Historiale) you will be able to look at over 50 uniforms of ally and axis soldiers who once whore those very uniforms in the Battle of Monte Cassino. After building up an appetite soon to follow will be a tasty lunch in a local restaurant based on regional cuisine accompanied by fine local wine.

The Battle of Monte Cassino was actually a series of battles fought during World War II Allied forces with the intention of making breakthrough in the Gustav Line, besiege Rome and connect with the allied forces who remained confined in the area of Anzio. The theater of operations, which committed the two armies from January to May 1944, included the town of Cassino, the Liri Valley and remarks that led AT Montecassino, in an area of 20 km ².
